Does creatine reduce mortality risk?

Last year, a paper was published showing a 15% lower all-cause mortality risk over 20 years for those eating over 1g dietary creatine per day1.

In a separate paper from the same team led by Sergej M. Ostojic, creatine intake is associated with reduced mortality risk scores, based on data from 4,983 adults over 50 years old from the USA2.

They found a linear correlation, with an improvement in GrimAge2Mort score of slightly over 1% for each 1g of creatine per day.

The finding held true even after they adjusted for demographic and dietary factors known to influence epigenetic aging, such as saturated fat, folate, vitamin D, and vitamin A.

Time will tell whether this finding holds up consistently, but these are promising findings that add to the body of evidence supporting creatine’s recent surge in popularity.
